Flop Culture in the Music Industry | Saweetie, Tinashe, Chloë & Roddy Ricch

The influence social media has had on the music industry has been incredibly impactful. The evolving phenomenon of "stan" culture has led to fans and users on social media to compete over sales figures and comment "flop," "trash," "outsold," "out charted," or various other descriptions online that have adverse effects for music artists. When I saw a few tweets from former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui in April 2023 who discussed this issue on her Twitter, I wanted to look at a few other examples of music artists in the industry who have been impacted by social media. By looking at Chloë Bailey with her recent release of her debut album 'In Pieces,' Roddy Ricch with his second studio album, 'Live Life Fast', Saweetie with her most recent November 2022 release of her EP 'Single Life,' and Tinashe's time as an artist on RCA with her albums, 'Aquarius,' 'Nightride,' and 'Joyride,' we will look at the downsides of "flop" culture and how it ruins the state of the music industry.
