I recently spent a few days wandering its quaint streets, on a very serious mission (okay, a delightfully indulgent one) — to hunt down the funkiest coffee spots, the quirkisest handmade items, the smoothest local wines, and track down restaurants that serve up scrumdiddlyumptious food without draining the bank. And yes, there may have been a cheeky festival thrown into the mix too. 🎉 You see, I’m a list person. I live for curating little (okay, sometimes enormous) collections of experiences I want to tick off — and nothing gives me more satisfaction than scratching through one with very satisfying score of my pen. One of those lists? Global festivals. And guess what? Electric Love Festival — now officially conquered. 😎✔ So, what did I think? Here’s the lowdown — my personal pros and cons of both Salzburg and the festival vibe: 🌟 Pros — AKA why Salzburg stole a little piece of my heart: 1. The water. Oh my god, THE WATER. It’s like sipping mermaid tears. So pure, crisp, and packed with minerals. 💧 2. Free drinking fountains all over the city — eco-friendly hydration at its finest. 3. Public transport that actually works — cheap, super efficient, and gets you everywhere with ease. 4. The people — warm, gentle, and genuinely lovely. 5. Next-level food quality — whether it’s traditional Austrian or international fusion (I recommend their Asian restaurants), the flavours are chef’s kiss. 6. Wine lovers, rejoice! 🍷 Local vino is seriously impressive. 7. Salzburg itself is like a postcard — cobbled streets, pastel buildings, baroque charm. 8. Free public toilets. Yes. Really. And they’re CLEAN. 9. Jaw-dropping mountains just 25 minutes away via a scenic cable car. Ideal for a quick nature escape. Peaceful, quiet, and incredibly safe — perfect for solo explorers or chill weekends. 😬 Cons — because no place is perfect, right? 1. Not a lot of UK airlines fly direct, so getting there can be a bit faffy. 2. The weather can be… moody. Think sudden rain, bring a brolly. 3. Surprisingly, not a strong coffee culture. My fellow caffeine addicts, consider yourselves warned. 4. It’s small. Like, really small. So after a few days, you may run out of things to do. 5. Pricing is inconsistent — some places are budget-friendly, others will make you cry. 6. Air quality wasn’t the best at times (which shocked me, to be honest. Something to do with the mountains trapping the pollution?). 7. The nightlife is… subdued. Think wine and jazz, not rave until 4am. Overall, Salzburg is the kind of place that makes you slow down, breathe deeply, and just be. It’s wholesome, charming, and ridiculously picturesque — with a dash of fun if you catch it during a festival. Would I go back? Absolutely.
