Is Your Micro Leader Too Thin? How to Choose the Right Diameter

In this video I go over the factors that I use to determine what size micro leader to fish. Micro leaders took the euro nymphing world by storm five or six years ago, and have quickly become most anglers go-to technique. Despite the popularity, there is still not a lot of info regarding how to choose a material, diameter, or set up a micro leader rig. A lot of people approach it as a one size fits all type of deal. Go with the thinnest option you can comfortably cast and you're good to go. It's true that any thin system is going to be better than a traditional tapered leader in most scenarios, however if you tailor your micro leader to the situation you'll be fishing in, you'll have a lot more success. I fish leaders ranging from 0.12mm all the way to 0.18mm, with each size offering something slightly different. Taking this approach to micro leader fishing allows me to better combat environmental conditions and match the tactics I'll be using for the day.
