Who to choose ICE or iStructe? | Civil/Structural Engineering Chartership

What’s the difference between ICE and iStructe chartership? Today’s video I go through the differences in the route to chartership with the ICE and iStructe. Both are similar in starting off, you’ll need to gain experiences and log them against the relevant attributes/objectives in your IPD. You’ll need to get the IPD signed off and approved by a chartered member of the respective institute. Before your professional review for both, the ICE route requires you to write a 5000 word report on your experiences whilst the iStructe requires you to prepare a portfolio of work. The ICE professional review consists of a 15 minute presentation, 1-1:30hr long interview and then a 2 hr written essay. This is all done in a day. The iStructe review consists of a 1hr interview and 7hr written test. These are done on separate days. The iStructe professional review has a much lower pass rate compared to the ICE. Both institutes are very recognised around the world. It does make more sense to go with iStructe as a structural engineer but that doesn’t take anything away from ICE chartered engineers. I am doing a series of videos that goes through the route to chartership with the ICE. If you have any questions related to the iStructe route, I am happy to help as I have mentored engineers who have gone on to pass the iStructe exam.
