Metropolys — How to Play 🎲 and Why It's a Gem 💎 (with thoughts on Skyrise)

Metropolys can technically be called an auction game... but feels like none you've played before. Players bid to build in city neighbourhoods, but raising a bid means actually bidding on a neighbouring lot, so bids snake around the board during a round. Add in a mix of secret and open scoring objectives, and you have a unique board game with a great number of important decisions in a relatively short playtime. Metropolys, from Sébastien Pauchon and Ystari Games, was widely considered A Good Game™ when it came out in 2008, but the muddy-coloured board and uneven objectives may have helped keep it from becoming an instant classic. A new version of sorts called Skyrise is on Kickstarter at the time of this video's publication, and I talk a bit about the differences near the end. 00:00 Intro ▶️ 03:50 How to Play 🎲 17:18 Why It's a Gem 💎 37:33 Thoughts on Skyrise 🌁 Skyrise Kickstarter Project: http://kck.st/3mKuHKf Board Gems highlights older board and card games that are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!
