Ultraviolet Macro Photography
This is another Circle of Confusion video - #4 - from Allan Walls Photography. An overview of ultraviolet induced visible fluorescence photography for macro photographers. The "UVIVF images" at the end of the video aren't real. Well - they are real images, but not real UVIVF. If you want to know how to use gradient mapping in Photoshop to make simulated fluorescence, leave a comment and if there is enough interest, I'll make a video to show you how its done. Before I forget, here is your Discord invitation... / discord Safety first. Do not play around with UV energy sources unless you know what you are doing. Always wear approved goggles and keep skin covered. UV energy is invisible and dangerous. Because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, UV energy sources are hard to find right now (they are used for sterilization). You may have to hunt around. The UV LEDs that I refer to throughout this video are made by Nichia, a Japanese company. You should look for UV sources that use Nichia's NCSU033A UV LEDs and include a high quality band pass filter that removes all visible wavelengths of light. This is one such UV energy source... http://www.tank007store.com/tank007-u... I have not used this brand, but it gets good reviews. Here is a less expensive version (affiliate link): https://adorama.rfvk.net/c/2372132/29... In a future video, I will go through the practical steps for macro UVIVF, and show you how to set up and use this specialized equipment. In the event that you have access to a full-spectrum light source, like a modified studio light or speedlight, here a couple of recommendations for UV band pass filters that I trust... https://midopt.com/filters/bp365/ https://www.etsy.com/listing/26298428... This second recommendation, the Hoya U-360, is not as effective as the same brand's U-340 filter, for blocking shortwave visible light, but it still works, at a decent price (though you will need a larger size to cover a speedlight's output). Good luck and be safe - make sure you know what are doing before you start playing with UV!
