Where has the Hippocratic legacy, so zealously taught to physicians by our ancestors, gone? Where have the humanities gone in medical science? Pere Gascón, an internist, oncologist, hematologist, industrial engineer, and graduate in philosophy and literature, shares with us the need to recover the Hippocratic legacy in medical schools. Pere Gascón could be considered a Renaissance genius forged in both science and the humanities. Few know that this brilliant physician is also an industrial engineer and holds a degree in philosophy and literature. His excellent training as a hematologist and oncologist led him to be chosen as the best physician of the year in New Jersey by the American College of Physicians and to be accepted as a member of the Alpha-Omega-Alpha National Honor Society, the only medical honor society in the USA. or to serve as Director, until June 2014, of the Medical Oncology Service and Scientific Coordinator of the Clinical Institute of Hematological and Oncological Diseases (ICMHO) at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. His exceptional character has made him one of the most highly regarded physicians in the world.
