"BROKEN RECORD" By Christopher Matthews

The 1955 Ealing Studios film "The Lady Killers" is about a gang of crooks preparing a heist at Kings Cross station. They masquerade as a string quintet and take lodgings with Mrs Wilberforce. They use a record player to convince Mrs Wilberforce they are making music, rather than plotting a crime. During the Serenade from Haydn's string quartet Op 3, No.5, the record player sticks, and repeats three notes over and over again. Louis - played by Herbert Lom - then smashes the record. I used these three notes as the inspiration for this little piece for solo guitar, which I wrote as incidental music for a video I made about the locations used in The Lady Killers called "Searching for Mrs Wilberforces House".
