How to Find the Perfect Arrow for your Longbow

In this tutorial I show you my method to find the right arrow for your longbow/flatbow. I recommend using the Easton spine chart as your starting point, based on your draw length and bow weight. Get a set of aluminum test arrows around the recommended spine - slightly stiffer, baseline, and slightly weaker. I use the 14-17 series for heavier arrows. For 3D archery, 80-100 grain points. For hunting, heavier points require stiffer spines. In this video, I test three aluminum shafts (2117, 2114, 1914) through bare shaft shooting to find which flies correctly. Then I use spine testers - both homemade and electronic - to measure the correct aluminum shaft and match it to wooden cedar shafts. The 2114 aluminum matches a 55# 11/32 wooden spine. I recommend a ±3# tolerance range. Final test shows both bare and fletched wooden arrows.
