Artist: http://incompetech.com/ He was an Ottoman pasha who single-handedly defended the Ottoman forts as they fell against the Russian Army, stood tall before the Russians marching towards Istanbul, and made his name known throughout Europe. Gazi Osman Pasha. Gazi Osman Pasha was born in Tokat in 1832. From childhood, he wanted to be a soldier. Therefore, he studied at the Military Academy, graduating from this school with a second-place finish at the age of 20. Despite his young age, he was sent to the Crimean War. From there, he went to Lebanon and then to Crete to quell the rebellion. Osman Bey's strategies and military genius made him stand out everywhere he went, and he rose through the ranks. After a while, he was sent to Yemen, where, for his accomplishments, he was given the title of Pasha at the age of 43. His life was spent fighting throughout Ottoman territory. Finally, with the outbreak of the Ottoman-Serbian War, he was sent to the Balkans. The Russians, who had been implementing a policy of Pan-Slavism in the Balkans and using the Serbs as their pawns, saw the state of the Serbian army and decided to take matters into their own hands and declared war on the Ottomans. During his captivity, he was highly respected by the Russians and congratulated personally by the Russian Tsar and his generals. Grand Duke Nicholas expressed his appreciation by saying, "I congratulate you on your defense of Plevna. It has become one of the most magnificent epics in history." The Russian Tsar, saying, "A sword from a commander like you cannot be taken," returned Osman Pasha's sword. After being forced to surrender, Gazi Osman Pasha was sent to Kharkov via Bucharest. He remained there until his release in March 1878. Upon his return to Istanbul, Osman Pasha was personally welcomed by Sultan Abdulhamid II with a grand celebration attended by the entire population. He was given the title of Gazi (Gazi) and had anthems composed in his name. He served the state in various capacities until his death on April 5, 1900, at the age of 67. Sultan Abdulhamid II, who loved him deeply, had a mausoleum built for him in the Fatih Mosque, where he was buried.
