Devizes to Westminster 2009 - The Original Film

The original Devizes to Westminster film, produced and filmed by our very own Roger Burlinson and originally shown on OTV Play. This film, hosted by Matt Thornton Brown, follows the 2009 DW, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the course record being set by Brian Greenham and Tim Cornish (who both regrouped to race again that year). The race was won by Owen Peake and Dan Seaford (Dan would return to win again in 2019) and the stand out 'celebrity' crew that year was James Cracknell and Bernie Shrosbree, who are interviewed early on. The film not only follows the fortunes of the key crews, it gives a complete portrait of the race and the unique experience everyone taking part has. There's a capsize just 100 metres from the start, the father and son crew kneeling the whole way in their Canadian Canoe and profiles of all the key sections and challenges, in particular the infamous Savernake Tunnel. The re-release of this film kick starts The Canoe Show's DW playlist, which will be added to over time to give the complete collection of all our highlights films and other footage from Roger's archive over more than ten years of filming the race.
