Follow me step by step through the process to get the job done right the first time! Please make sure to follow 3 CODE requirements when installing a new handrail: 1) Height - We need our handrail product to finish at 36-38 inches in height to pass code. Measure from the front edge of the first stair up 31 inches With the height of the bracket and material you will be in code! 2) Length - Our handrail product needs to exceed the length of the staircase. Some cases the handrail will be exactly the same length as the staircase due to wall layout conditions, this still passes code! 3) Distance from Wall - Our handrail product needs to be 1 1/2 inches (or larger) away from the wall.
