In several BMW models, the passenger seat occupancy sensor or mat fails, causing the airbag warning light to come on. The mat acts as a sensor so that when someone sits in the passenger seat, it detects their presence and, in the event of an accident, the airbags in that area are deployed. If this occupancy sensor is faulty, no airbag will work, as the system is automatically deactivated. The mat is located under the passenger seat upholstery. There are two possible solutions: -Replace the mat with a new one; the cost at a dealership can be around €300. -Emulate the vehicle's mat by signaling to the car that someone is always sitting in the passenger seat. The airbag emulator costs €50. In my case, in the BMW 1 SERIES, we opted for this second option.
