Why I Rode My Motorcycle to the Cheapest Motel With the Worst Reviews

I just got back from a month-long motorcycle trip across America, and I discovered something nobody warns you about: coming home is harder than leaving. You spend a month with complete freedom, total rhythm, everything you need attached to the bike — and then you're standing in your kitchen wondering what the hell to do with yourself. So I did the only reasonable thing. I found the cheapest, worst-reviewed motel within 200 miles of Portland, Oregon, and I rode my brand new Moto Guzzi V85TT out to spend the night in it. Welcome to the first episode of Bed, Bug and Beyond — a new series about the shady, cheap motels that people like me can't seem to stay away from. This one's the Relax Inn in Madras, Oregon: $65 a night, reviews so bad one person rated it "negative five," and a smell I can only describe as a cross between a billy goat and someone's attic. But the people who run it were genuinely kind, the shower was clean, a handmade $6.99 burrito fit perfectly in my side case, and I got to pull my motorcycle right up to my door — which remains one of my favorite things in the entire world. The bed, though. We need to talk about the bed. Final verdict: 2 bed bugs out of 5. Would I stay again? Probably. But I'd bring my own sheets. NOTE: I'm still working on the last video from my cross-country trip. Stay tuned. 🍄 Use this link to buy Aerostich gear.
