The 2 largest bridges in Greece 🇬🇷 In this video, we compare two of the country's most important engineering projects: the Rio-Antirrio "Charilaos Trikoupis" Bridge and the Servia High Bridge at Lake Polyphytos. Two landmark bridges that changed transportation and breathed new life into entire regions. Rio–Antirrio Bridge “Charilaos Trikoupis” With a total length of 2,880 meters, it is one of the largest cable-stayed projects in Europe and connects the Peloponnese with Central Greece over the Gulf of Corinth. It was inaugurated in 2004 and was a huge change for the connection between Patras and Nafpaktos and in general for travel to Western Greece. It stands out not only for its length but also for its impressive design, with the tall pylons and the cables that “hold” the deck, offering a unique image especially at night with the lighting. High Bridge of Servia (Lake Polyphytos) With a length of 1,371 meters, it is located in Western Macedonia and passes over Lake Polyphytos, which was created by the dam on the Aliakmonas River. It was inaugurated in 1976 and for decades was the largest bridge in Greece. This bridge had a crucial role for the region, because it significantly improved the connection of the settlements around the lake and the access to Kozani and the surrounding areas. The landscape is impressive in itself: water, slopes and a large passage that “cuts” the lake in half.
