【屋久島・後編】数千年の時を生きる縄文杉へ！世界遺産の森を歩く

This is Part 2 of our 3-night, 4-day trip to Yakushima — covering Days 3 and 4. Day 3 was the moment we'd been waiting for: the Jomon Sugi trek. My son, who had been down with a cold the day before, managed to recover just in time, and we caught the 5 a.m. bus to Arakawa Trailhead. After making our way through about 8 km of the old trolley track, the trail opens up into a proper mountain path. We were awestruck by the ancient Yakusugi cedars at every turn — Wilson Stump, Daio Sugi, and more — before finally coming face to face with Jomon Sugi itself. Day 4 was our last day on the island. We spent the morning wandering around Miyanoura at a leisurely pace before catching an afternoon flight home. Yakushima — a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. Things didn't always go as planned, and we had to rethink our itinerary more than once along the way.
