City of David (Phil Rayment)
https://linktr.ee/csb1969 Premiered at “Christmas with The Salvation Army” in Toronto in December 2023, this new piece, “City of David,” was written by Phil Rayment of the CSB tuba section. Phil penned this piece of engaging rhythms and flourishes, as well as lyrical exchanges that features three songs focusing on the town of Christ’s birth (“Once in Royal David’s City,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “How Far Is It To Bethlehem”). The three sections allude to the busyness of those under Roman rule returning to their ancestral homes to be taxed, the stillness on the night of Jesus’ birth and the excitement of worshippers who continue to celebrate the birth of a Saviour over 2000 years later.
