In the program "Vorsicht, Falle!" (Beware, Trap!), subtitled "Nepper, Schlepper, Bauernfänger" (Swindlers, Con Artists, Swindlers), presenter Eduard Zimmermann warned viewers from 1964 onwards about numerous everyday scams. What infamous tricks do obscure limited liability companies (GmbH & Co. KGs) use to lure gullible, trusting individuals with false promises behind the noses of "community wind turbines" or "community solar parks"—all with the sole aim of acquiring their savings cheaply and risk-free? That, yes, that would certainly have been a topic Eduard Zimmermann would have addressed. Far too often, "citizen participations" are advertised, which, according to corporate and commercial law definitions, are not participations at all, but rather high-risk subordinated loans: "the worst thing there is on the unregulated capital market," as specialist lawyer Mattil stated in 2024 on Bavarian Radio. The total loss of the loan is imminent if the GmbH & Co. KG (limited partnership) becomes insolvent, impacting far too many unsuspecting small investors who were unaware of to whom, why, and under what risk they entrusted their savings for what were sometimes abysmally low interest rates – all with the stated goal of saving the climate. The video explains the background and how the predicted wave of insolvencies among project developers and operators has gained momentum. Small investors are already worried about losses amounting to hundreds of millions of euros.
