Drigo

Drigo is a beautiful ballet piece choreographed by Kristine Elliott. Once again, we collaborated with the First Step Ballet based in McGregor under the directorship of Mary Silver. Since being taught the ballet in early January 2023 we have embarked on a collaboration with Mary and her school. Some of our students attend classes with Mary and our teacher, Nqaba Mafilika, on two Saturdays of each month. I believe that they have all learned a lot. Thank you, Kristine, for sharing your knowledge of dance with our students. I know that they all really enjoy every one of your visits. Riccardo Drigo composed the score. I have posted this piece for the Youth Day Celebrations. Youth Day being a remembrance of the Soweto uprising where the youth protested the government’s insistence that they be taught in Afrikaans. What a day that was. How important it is to remember their sacrifice and to honor our youth.
