In this comprehensive piano lesson, Jason Zac walks you through every triad and inversion of F Major and F Harmonic Minor. If you've been running scales note-by-note, this is the workout that will shift your thinking into chord shapes across the keyboard. We start by harmonizing both scales — building all 7 diatonic triads. In F Major you'll get the familiar 1-4-5 major, 2-3-6 minor and 7 diminished pattern. In F Harmonic Minor we tackle the trickier chord formula: minor 1 and 4, diminished 2 and 7, major 5 and 6, and the augmented ♭3 chord. We also break down the augmented 2nd interval between the ♭6 and 7. Next, we drill root position, first inversion and second inversion as block chords — ascending and descending. Then we ramp up the speed: one chord per bar, then every two beats, then every single beat. This is where real chord fluency is built. We also explore spread shapes (open-voiced triads) — reading the chord tones in a circular pattern to unlock new voicings. Along the way, Jason encourages singing the chord tones to train your ear alongside your fingers.
