Why Delta Abandoned Their $100 Million Texas Empire
In 1990s, if you wanted to fly out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, you had two choices. American Airlines — or Delta. At its peak, Delta commanded 35% of all DFW traffic, controlled the entirety of Terminal E, and was running over 250 daily flights from the heart of American Airlines' backyard. They called it "Easy Street." Then came a decade of slow unraveling — rival pressure, internal priorities, and a brutal post-9/11 reckoning. By January 2005, Delta went from 250 daily flights to 60. The terminal went dark. This is the rise and fall of Delta's forgotten empire at DFW and the story of how American Airlines finally got what they always wanted.
