When a woman is unable to conceive and all her other factors are normal, then the doctor advises to check the fallopian tube. The fallopian tube is checked in two ways 1. HSG Test 2. Laparoscopy When is HSG Test done? -HSG Test has to be done to get information about Fallopian tube. -When a woman has repeated abortions in the second trimester, then the doctor asks for HSG test to know the size of uterus. -Sometimes after D & C, there are chances of the walls of the uterus sticking or getting pressed. -Scar tissue is formed inside which is called Asherman syndrome, due to which there may be problems in the baby coexisting, HSG Test is also done to know this. -If there are fibroids, polyps in the uterus, then this test has to be done to know this. How is HSG Test done? (Hsg Test Procedure / HSG test preparation) -Antibiotic medicine and painkiller medicine are started one day before HSG and the patient is called to the hospital the next day. -After this, the doctor asks you to sign the consent because while doing this test, contrast media is injected which can cause allergy to the patient. So, to give all this information, the doctor takes your consent signature. -For this test, you do not need to stay hungry. It is necessary to have someone with you while coming for this test. -For this test, you are made to lie down in the X-ray room and the doctors insert a small cannula into the mouth of the uterus through the vagina. A slight pull is felt when the doctors push the dye. When the dye is pushed, you have to hold your breath so that the pain is less. Most women get this test done without anesthesia, but those who need anesthesia, have to get admitted a day before and follow whatever procedures are there for anesthesia. When should HSG test not be done? This test should not be done when the woman suspects pregnancy. That is why this test is done only on the sixth or seventh day after the menstruation ends. This test should not be done even when there is bleeding. This test is not appropriate if there is a pelvic infection or vaginal infection. This test is not done even when the patient knows that she is allergic to a dye. What is the problem after HSG Test? (hsg test side effects) When the doctor injects the dye, there is a little pain. After that, if this dye has gone into the cavity, there is a possibility of slight pain. Before this procedure, an injection is given due to which the mouth becomes dry, nausea occurs, and sometimes there is a little lightheadedness. Benefits of HSG Test The report of this test is given in the form of a film or x-ray in which we get information about the structure of the uterus, if there are chances of lumps in it, whether there is scar tissue in the uterus, whether the fallopian tube is open or closed, whether there is infection in the fallopian tube or not.
