Just then, a spy informs him of the sighting of two archer-wielding ascetics in the Kishkindha region. They are none other than Rama and Lakshmana, but the spy cannot identify them. Nala expresses his suspicion that they may be spies sent by Sugreeva's elder brother, Bali. Jambavan suggests capturing them. He advises sending Hanuman for this task. Hanuman is not in favor of capturing Rama and Lakshmana directly. He suggests first ascertaining the truth. Hanuman disguises himself as a Brahmin and approaches Rama and Lakshmana. Lakshmana asks him for directions to the summit of Rishyamuka. Hanuman, disguised as a Brahmin, turns back, demanding to know why he wants to go to the summit. Rama then expresses his desire to meet Sugreeva. Hanuman asks him numerous questions to gather more information about Rama and Lakshmana. Lakshmana becomes irritated. Rama says that if he cannot introduce him to Sugreeva, then let him introduce him to Hanuman. Hanuman inquires about his identity and, realizing that his own Lord Rama, Chandra, and Lakshmana are standing before him, he transforms into his true monkey form. Rama embraces Hanuman. Hanuman says that by gaining Rama's friendship, Sugreeva will be able to regain his lost kingdom and wife. Hanuman enlarges his size and, carrying Rama and Lakshmana on his shoulders, carries them through the sky to the summit of Rishyamuka, where Sugreeva has established his secret hideout to hide from Bali.
