Professora denuncia violência em sala de aula e expõe crise de saúde mental nas escolas

Teacher Michele Ramos reported an incident of violence that occurred in a classroom at a municipal school in São José dos Campos, São Paulo state. During an activity with 8th-grade students, a student placed a microscope slide in the teacher's glass of water. The incident was discovered before Michele drank the water, and through surveillance cameras, three students were identified. One of them confessed to the act, and all three were suspended. Shaken by the incident, Michele sought medical assistance and posted a video on social media recounting the episode and the emotional strain caused by the profession. The teacher argued that the case demonstrates the need to discuss the mental health of teachers. The Department of Education reported that it contacted the Child Protective Services and the Civil Police, classifying the episode as an isolated incident. Data cited in the report reveals that 97.6% of teachers surveyed associate working in public schools with mental health strain. Almost a quarter have already had to take time off due to psychological problems, with anxiety, panic attacks, and depression being the most frequent disorders. Another study indicates that 74.4% of teachers do not feel safe in the school environment. The report also interviewed former teacher Carlos Augusto Mello, who abandoned his career after four years due to threats and attempted assaults by students. According to him, he filed 20 complaints with the authorities and developed depression and anxiety.
