The Hill Country is full of deer and exotic wildlife, and long stretches of game fencing don’t keep them off the road — they push them toward it. When deer panic, they run straight across your path with almost no warning. On this ride, one of our friends hit a deer at speed. He didn’t do anything wrong — it was simply the reality of riding in Texas. He’s going to recover, but he was hurt worse than he would have been with full protective gear.
