[Anchor] A group of six Chinese nationals who brutally murdered a South Korean university student in Cambodia last year have all been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court. The court handed down the maximum legal sentence, citing autopsy results indicating death by torture. Reporter Kwon Jun-ki reports. [Reporter] The scene of the arrest of the criminals, filmed in front of a restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, last November. This is the moment when Lee Kwang-ho, the mastermind behind the torture and murder of the South Korean university student, was apprehended by local police about three months after the crime. About six months later, the Cambodian court delivered its first-instance verdict. It sentenced all six defendants, including 35-year-old Lee Kwang-ho, to life imprisonment. This is the maximum legal sentence in Cambodia, which does not have a death penalty system. The court stated that the autopsy results for the South Korean university student, identified as Mr. Park, determined that he died from torture. It also noted that Lee Kwang-ho made threatening phone calls to the victim's family demanding money, forcibly administered methamphetamine to Mr. Park, and filmed the incident. The court explained the reason for imposing the maximum legal sentence, stating that a review of the evidence and facts sufficiently proved guilt. Mr. Park left for Cambodia last July under the pretext of attending a job fair, but was found dead in the cargo bed of a truck near a crime complex just three weeks later. He went to Cambodia after being offered a high-paying job, only to die after being held captive and tortured by Lee Kwang-ho's criminal organization. Lee Kwang-ho was an accomplice in the 2023 drug-laced beverage case in Seoul's Gangnam academy district; the following year, he was caught smuggling 4 kg of drugs into Korea, leading to an Interpol Red Notice being issued against him.
