Charles Hutagalung, sang legenda musik pop

This time, we'll feature Charles Hutagalung, the legendary Medan-based musical group. Charles Hutagalung is the lead vocalist, songwriter, and keyboardist of the legendary band, The Mercy's. This Batak man was born on October 14, 1948, in Medan, North Sumatra. As a child, Charles began taking piano lessons at the age of 9. Having studied piano from an early age, it's no surprise that as he grew older and joined The Mercy's, his piano/keyboard playing became increasingly proficient and dominated the band's songs. The Mercy's signature is Charles' keyboard playing, alongside his saxophone playing, Albert Sumlang. Charles's keyboard skills are further complemented by his prowess in songwriting and singing. Charles has composed many songs for The Mercy's albums. Within The Mercy's, the duo Charles & Rinto are particularly dominant. They often duet, with Rinto featuring in his lower voice and Charles in his higher voice. Of the three members of The Mercy's, Rinto, Charles, and Reynold Panggabean have had successful solo careers. Rinto Harahap was the most successful, especially as a songwriter whose songs have been sung by many other artists. Reynold Panggabean also successfully formed the Malay Tarantula Orchestra, a dangdut-tinged rock band with his wife, Camelia Malik (now divorced). Reynold's songs have been sung by many dangdut singers, such as "Colak Colek," "Wakuncar," "Goyang Senggol," "Liku Liku," and others. Charles also had a successful solo career, but unfortunately, his life was short. His life was cut short by a stroke that lasted for years, ultimately leading to his death. The legendary Charles Hutagalung died on May 7, 2001. Once again, keep watching this video. Data sources: Wikipedia, Jose Choa Linge, Erwin Harahap channel, Charles Hutagalung channel, and RRI pro.
