By combining beautiful materials from Paint Couture and WhimsyKel Designs, I was able to create something truly unique that now serves as the centerpiece in my home. The first step in this transformation was prepping the mirror's glass to ensure the decoupage would adhere perfectly. To do this, I used GreenEZ Stripper, bleach, and steel wool to gently remove part of the old finish. This process allowed me to expose the glass beneath, creating a clean surface for the decoupage paper. The stripping and bleaching also helped to create a more transparent area where the vibrant Peacock design from WhimsyKel Designs could shine through, making sure that the intricate details would stand out beautifully. Once the glass was prepped, I carefully applied the decoupage paper using Paint Couture’s Decoupage Gel. This was done in reverse, adhering the paper to the backside of the mirror’s glass. The Peacock design, which features soft pinks, a large, elegant peacock, and hints of florals, came to life in a dreamy, ethereal way. The reverse decoupage technique allows the design to appear as if it's floating behind the glass, creating a soft, painted-on look while letting the ornate frame remain a focal point. After the decoupage was set and dried, I turned my attention to painting the ornate frame. I wanted a color palette that would complement the peacock design and bring a modern elegance to the vintage frame. I chose Barn Red and Buttercream from Paint Couture's luxurious range of colors. The Barn Red added a bold, rustic richness, while the Buttercream provided a soft, warm contrast that highlighted the detailed carvings of the frame. For added depth, I used Verde Green Glaze, which beautifully enhanced the texture of the frame’s intricate design. The glaze settled into the crevices, accentuating the ornate detailing. To finish off the frame and give it a subtle metallic shine, I applied Champagne Gold to highlight specific areas. This added just the right amount of elegance without overpowering the peacock imagery. The combination of the reverse decoupage technique, vibrant colors, and metallic highlights resulted in a piece that feels both timeless and contemporary. This project not only revived an old, forgotten mirror but transformed it into a showstopper that brings warmth, elegance, and personality to any space. With the help of Paint Couture’s paints and decoupage gel, along with the breathtaking Peacock paper from WhimsyKel Designs, I was able to create a personalized work of art that reflects my love for creativity and craftsmanship. ‪@paintcouturepaint‬
