We visited Fort Davis National Historic Site in Fort Davis, Texas for the very first time — and found what is widely considered the best preserved frontier military post in the American West. From the visitor center and enlisted barracks to the parade ground, Officers’ Row, the post hospital, and the Scenic Overlook Trail above the North Ridge, this episode walks through more than a century of history: the protection of the San Antonio–El Paso Road, the Apache conflicts of the Indian Wars, and the remarkable story of the Buffalo Soldiers who garrisoned this remote post from 1867 to 1885.
