King Lear, Act 1 Scene (iii) - Episode 6

In this video, we continue our exploration of William Shakespeare's "King Lear" by analysing Act 1, Scenes 3 and 4, where the deteriorating relationship between King Lear and his daughter Goneril comes to the forefront. Act 1, Scene 3: Goneril's Frustration Goneril, exasperated by her father Lear's disruptive behavior and that of his retinue, instructs her steward, Oswald, to treat Lear with deliberate neglect. She hopes this will prompt Lear to curb his and his followers' unruly conduct. Act 1, Scene 4: Confrontation and Disguise In this scene, the banished Earl of Kent returns in disguise as "Caius" to continue serving King Lear. Lear, failing to recognise Kent, hires him into his service. The tension escalates when Goneril confronts Lear, criticising the disorderly behaviour of his knights and demanding he reduce their number. Offended and enraged by her ingratitude, Lear curses Goneril and decides to leave for Regan's residence, believing she will treat him with more respect. Our analysis delves into the themes of authority, loyalty, and familial conflict, highlighting how these scenes set the stage for the tragic events that follow. 📲 Apple App Store: https://apps.apple.com/ae/app/grinds-... 📲 Google Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de...
