A while ago we received a VCR as a gift and we were super excited to make a video and find out what was inside. However, a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions ended up destroying our VCR and almost ruined a VHS tape with recordings of when Iberê was between 7 and 8 years old! Imagine Iberê's mother's fury! The VCR simply started chewing up the tape, without explanation or apparent reason, and we were forced to interrupt our video. Therefore, let's follow the beginning of this saga, what we managed to record in the first attempt to discover what's inside the VCR, and then we'll return to the present. Our friend Vitor, from Goiânia, sent us this first device, and he was very careful even with the packaging. Right away, we could tell from the number of buttons that it's a very old VCR, as the first models came with many buttons on the device. As they became more modern, this number decreased. Devices like this evoke a sense of nostalgia for those who lived through that era. As proof, Iberê received a collection of old tapes when he told his mother he was going to open a VCR. In this collection, we found some films recorded at the time, because, since streaming didn't exist, that was one of the main functions of the VCR: to record movies, soap operas, and whatever else we wanted that was going to be on TV to watch later and at different times. You can imagine how anxious we were to get it working even before discovering what was inside the VCR. We removed the main cover to see how the mechanism worked and saw some loose belts, which could affect its performance. As we suspected, one of the belts was damaged, but we managed to replace it and get it working, even if upside down. However, there was still a problem: the VCR started rejecting the VHS tape that was already inside. With a lot of persistence, we succeeded! And more than that, we even found a CRT TV and tested it to fully immerse ourselves in that nostalgia. Everything was going well until the VCR started chewing up the tape. Our desire to show and understand what's inside the device and how it works was so great that we went looking for another one. Before explaining how the VCR works, we need to better understand the VHS tape, after all, the entire device was developed around it. We explain every detail, the function of each little piece, each gear and each button, we recall some things that were super modern for the time and that many people today don't even remember existed. The VCR has some fundamental parts for its proper functioning, and you will learn more about them by watching the video. We are talking about the head, the audio sensor, the speed sensor and the eraser.
