Isaac ALBÉNIZ - IBERIA: III BOOK: Lavapiés. ALBA VENTURA 🔴 Live Recording

ISAAC ALBÉNIZ Iberia: Book III: Lavapiés “Lavapiés” by Isaac Albéniz, the piece that closes the third volume of the monumental Iberia, one of the great landmarks of the piano repertoire. “Lavapiés” is perhaps one of the most demanding works a pianist can face: a score of extraordinary complexity, full of layered rhythms, extreme contrasts, and a richness of color that requires complete control of the instrument. It is not often performed, precisely because of its difficulty, but also because of the depth of musical understanding it calls for. And yet, beyond the technical challenge, there is a fascinating world. The modernist aesthetic that runs throughout Iberia—refined, evocative, and full of nuance—places Albéniz in a unique position, opening paths later explored by composers such as Manuel de Falla. Approaching “Lavapiés” is, for me, a way of entering that universe: demanding, yes, but also deeply beautiful. A reminder of the extraordinary richness of the Spanish piano repertoire, which continues to captivate through its distinctive voice.
