My droid-sheep are flickering with diodes in the dark, They don’t need the water, they don’t need a park. I’ve been herding these shadows since I bought this old rig, Dreaming of a world where the mountains are big. The vacuum smells like ozone and sun-damaged plastic, While I dream of a rain that is pure and fantastic. Six hundred million miles to the nearest neon sign, Just high-proof spirits and this radio of mine. Oh, I’ve got the Saturn Station Blues in the void! Where the grass is just metal and a dream is destroyed. Spinning in major while the planet is shaking, And the stardust is slipping, and my spirit is aching. I’m a cowboy of nothing, a shepherd of silence, Lost in the orbits of celestial violence! Sheep number seven had a glitch in her gear, The first bit of trouble I’ve had in a year. I fixed her up crying in the freezing cold space, While the moons of the giant kept staring at my face. I miss the smell of wet dirt and the sage on the wind, Instead of this desert where the air is so thinned. But a job is a job, and the sheep must be fed, Before the robot-wolves tear the wires from their head. Oh, I’ve got the Saturn Station Blues in the void!
