Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 1,731. This represented 6.47% of the total population of Mainit. Kitcharao is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Agusan del Norte. The municipality has a land area of 171.92 square kilometers or 66.38 square miles which constitutes 6.30% of Agusan del Norte's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 18,659. This represented 5.26% of the total population of Agusan del Norte province, or 0.72% of the overall population of the Caraga region.
