What Happens When the Chery Stockman Battery Goes Flat?

Getting home solar doesn't have to be hard - click this link and fill in the form: Fully engineered systems, quality components, local support short lead time and no cowboys. https://autoexpert.com.au/solar What happens to the Chery Stockman’s claimed 350kW and 800Nm when the battery’s usable charge is depleted? That was the biggest question underneath my first Stockman video, along with a cluster of related concerns: Does the diesel engine recharge the battery while driving? Can it still deliver serious performance while towing after the initial electric range is gone? Does it become effectively diesel-only? Could fuel consumption blow out under sustained load? How does the hybrid transmission actually distribute power? And where exactly does the spare tyre go once a substantial battery pack is installed underneath the vehicle? In this follow-up, I unpack how diesel plug-in hybrid systems are likely to manage battery charge, engine output, electric assistance and sustained towing demand. The important point is that “battery depleted” does not normally mean electrically dead. Hybrid systems preserve a working state of charge so the electric motors can continue supporting the combustion engine, while the engine and regenerative braking replenish energy as required. But the unanswered engineering questions still matter enormously: • Diesel-engine output • Battery capacity and discharge limits • Sustained combined power • Kerb weight • Payload • GVM and GCM • Real-world towing fuel consumption • Thermal management • Spare-wheel packaging • Long-term reliability and parts support On paper, the Chery Stockman looks extraordinary: 350kW, 800Nm, triple differential locks, 3500kg towing and up to 100km of electric range. The real test will be whether it can deliver those benefits repeatedly, under sustained Australian towing and off-road conditions, without unacceptable fuel use, performance reduction or durability compromises. Chery says the Stockman will launch in Australia in Q4 2026, with pricing and full local specifications to be announced closer to release.
