*Author Introduction Born in Naju. He enlisted in the military while attending Dongguk University and served in the Vietnam War (March 1970 - January 1972). He covered the first-ever special assignment in the history of Korean journalism to report on the "Communization of Vietnam," a country with which Korea did not have diplomatic relations. Following the publication of his first report in Sports Seoul and Seoul Shinmun (April 1990) and his second in Busan Ilbo (December 1990), he published the reportage collections Vietnam Byeolgok and The Revolution Has Not Ended*. He began publishing fiction in April 1983 when his short story "Bullet Mark" won the New Writer's Award from *Monthly Literature*. In 1987, the novel *The Yellow Man became the number one bestseller (Hanguk Munhaksa), and in 1989, volumes 2 and 3 of the reprint were published (Hyunamsa). He also published short story collections such as The Reviving Arm*, *The Land of Heroes*, *Hidden Picture Search*, *Who Wouldn't Want to Be a Star*, *What a Damn Thing*, and *Secret Betrayal*. He published novels such as *The Yellow Man (3 volumes), The Contract with Freedom (2 volumes), The Woman and the Man Met While Looking for a Man (2 volumes), Oh No (3 volumes), The Taegeukgi Flutters in the Wind (5 volumes), The Wandering Poet Kim Sat-gat (10 volumes), Oh Human, Oh Human*, *Red Eyes*, and *Lost Time*, as well as short stories such as *I Shoot Toward You and *My Beloved Is Only Good to Embrace*. He has received the Republic of Korea Literature Prize, the Yun Dong-ju Literature Prize, the Dongguk Literature Prize, the International PEN Literature Prize, the Korean Novel Literature Prize, the Nogunri Peace Prize (Literature Category), the Jo Yeon-hyeon Literature Prize, the Yusim Works Prize (Literature Category), the Korean Literature Prize, the Yeongsangang Literature Prize, the Pyoam Ikje Literature Prize, and the Dunchon Yijip Literature Prize.
