Following the attack of the gall mite (Eriophyes vitis) on a grapevine, it reacts by forming swellings on the upper surface of the leaves. That is why it is also called erinosis or grapevine blistering. The mites are located on the back of the leaf in some depressions covered with a fluffy and whitish texture (called erineum). They overwinter in the winter buds of the grapevine or under the bark and in spring they begin to feed on the first leaves. The attack does not affect grape production, except for some plots and varieties, but through the syndrome called "erinosis" it can affect the quantity and quality of production. As a preventive measure, it is recommended to collect and burn fallen leaves on the ground or apply deep plowing, and apply fertilizers rationally. The application of treatments with acaricides or insecticides is rarely applied, because treatments against mealybugs (with sulfur) during the dormant period greatly reduce the populations of these gall mites. In the case of vineyards that have had a massive attack of these mites in the previous year, specific treatments are applied. The first treatment during vegetative dormancy is done with calcium polysulfide (sulfocalcic juice) during complete vegetative dormancy in a concentration of 15-20% (1.5-2l per 10l of water).
