Ethiopian minister on GERD: 'The Nile is for everyone' - BBC Africa
Ethiopia has inaugurated Africa’s largest hydroelectric dam in September. Built over the Blue Nile for $4.6 billion, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam is expected to generate more than 5000 MW of electricity and has been at the centre of diplomatic row between Addis Ababa and Egypt which fears its essential water supplies could be impacted. In an exclusive interview with the BBC’s Kalkidan Yibeltal, Ethiopia’s Minister of Water and Energy, Habtamu Ifeta says that the project will not reduce the volume of water flowing to upstream countries and negotiations over the use of Nile waters could continue.
