Do Muslims REALLY Believe They're Getting 72 Virgins?

One of the biggest controversies I’ve seen in modern times surrounding Islam is the concept of the 72 virgins - those that according to some beliefs are rewarded to a Muslim upon his reaching of paradise. Whilst the Qur’an doesn’t actually ever mention 72 virgins, nor is there an explicit mention of any sexual gratification one might receive from them, various Hadith literature, these being reports of the Prophet Muhammed’s words, actions, or approvals that are often used to explain or contextualise Quranic verses, are a bit more forthcoming and in some cases, also quite graphic.
