Following the strike on the Moscow Oil Refinery, located 15 kilometers from the Kremlin, Russia massed numerous Pantsir surface-to-air missile systems around it. As Defense Express notes , after the second strike, the Russians began to deploy all the surface-to-air missile systems they could there. "All of them were hastily deployed at the highest accessible points—the overpasses leading off the Moscow Ring Road, less than a kilometer from the Moscow Oil Refinery. This means that, as of now, at least four Pantsir anti-aircraft missile systems are deployed in the immediate vicinity of the refinery," the statement reads. Analysts do not rule out the possibility that several more such systems may have been deployed nearby, but they have not yet been captured on camera. "Therefore, the number of Pantsir missiles per square meter around the Moscow Oil Refinery is currently off the charts," analysts note. They also noted that the protection of some other important Russian facilities had been weakened in favor of the refinery, which, in turn, should increase the effectiveness of subsequent Ukrainian strikes. As reported, on June 18, a complex oil refining unit, three RVS-10000 tanks, and one RVS-30000 tank on the territory of the Moscow Oil Refinery were damaged. Aviation expert Konstantin Krivolap noted that Moscow's air defense system is designed in such a way that it is incapable of shooting down all Ukrainian drones sent there. At the same time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would intensify strikes against Russia . Specifically, he cited the recent strike on an oil refinery in the Tyumen region, 2,070 kilometers away. The head of state noted that Ukraine has already developed new drones capable of flying over 3,000 kilometers. The Pantsir system was developed to protect important military and strategic facilities from aerial threats. In recent years, such systems have increasingly been placed on rooftops in Moscow to defend key infrastructure sites. The system is designed to intercept aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, and drones. One of its main features is the combination of missile and artillery weapons on a single platform. Guided missiles are used to engage targets at longer ranges, while automatic cannons are used at close range, including against low-flying drones.
