9 - golden glow

Yellow is the colour of emergence. Filmed on bright March mornings in Southeast Cornwall, this short lumenmoss film follows a quiet path through four golden encounters, each revealing a different face of nature's most luminous colour. Together they form a meditation on renewal, joy, transformation, and the mysterious possibility that sunlight itself may be a doorway. Our journey begins with yellow lichen. Clinging to swaying branches like fragments of an ancient map, these intricate living mosaics are among the oldest forms of life in the landscape. Their golden patterns seem to glow against weathered surfaces, tracing symbols and pathways that feel almost otherworldly. In the early spring light, the lichen appears less like a plant and more like a message — a reminder that nature is filled with hidden languages waiting to be noticed. From these ancient markings, we move to a single yellow dandelion flower rising from the grass. Illuminated by the morning sun, the bloom gathers light into its petals until it resembles a tiny terrestrial star. The dandelion has long been associated with wishes, journeys, and transformation. Here it becomes a symbol of awakening — a burst of brightness emerging from the green world as winter loosens its grip upon the land. The film then drifts towards the golden blossoms of gorse. Scattered across the Cornish landscape, these vibrant flowers burn like small flames beneath the spring sky. Their warm coconut fragrance hangs in the air while their brilliant colour seems to radiate energy into the surrounding world. Gorse is a plant of resilience and endurance, flowering when much of nature is only beginning to stir. Its blossoms remind us that joy can flourish even in uncertain conditions. Finally, the journey reaches the shoreline. Nestled amongst pale pebbles on a Southeast Cornish beach lies a small piece of yellow sea glass, polished by years of tides and currents. Smoothed by the sea into a translucent jewel, it catches the sunlight and glows with a quiet inner fire. An inquisitive fly arrives to investigate this curious treasure, wandering across its surface like an explorer discovering a relic from another realm. In the world of lumenmoss, yellow is more than a colour. It is a force. A signal. A threshold. The lichen becomes a forgotten map. The dandelion becomes a sun. The gorse becomes a constellation. The sea glass becomes a portal. Across myths and cultures, yellow has been linked with vitality, illumination, healing, wisdom, mystery and revelation. It is the colour of pollen and dawn, of returning warmth and growing life. It awakens the senses, lifts the spirit, and invites us to look again at the familiar world. Perhaps that is why yellow often feels magical. Perhaps every golden object carries within it a small opening to somewhere else. For three quiet minutes, allow yourself to wander through these bright fragments of spring. Follow the lichen. Kneel beside the dandelion. Walk amongst the gorse. Lie by the sea glass, and listen... And step gently into the golden glow...
