Economía defiende planta de amoniaco en Topolobampo; habitantes responden

The Ministry of Economy defended the Gas y Petroquímica de Occidente (GPO) ammonia plant project in Topolobampo, Sinaloa, asserting that it will generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. However, the mayor of Topolobampo, Ulises Espinoza, rejected these figures, stating that they are unsubstantiated and pointing out that official documents from the company itself indicate only between 143 and 260 permanent jobs once construction is complete. Espinoza confirmed that talks with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) are ongoing, although he reiterated that the residents' position remains unchanged: they continue to oppose the plant's construction, considering it a risk to the population and the environment. He also stated that construction remains halted due to the community's ongoing protest, which has lasted for a month.
