Can a 63-year old senior citizen still climb Mt. Pinatubo? I have climbed Mt. Pinatubo several times, with my first time in Year 2000 when we had to start our trek from the jump-off point in Barangay Sta. Juliana in Capas, Tarlac. At that time, we had to walk the whole stretch for six hours before reaching the Base Camp (at that time, camping was still allowed), camp overnight, and then made the final one-hour assault to the crater lake. After that first experience, I followed it with several climbs, with my last one in 2006. Many things have changed since 2006: there are now 4X4 vehicles that take you closer to the crater, and you only need to trek for 2 hours to reach the viewdeck. Camping, swimming and boating are no longer allowed. And, I am no longer the active young man who made his first Pinatubo climb in 2000. But I need not worry, as tours now to Mt.
