“Introduction to Interaction Orientation Theory in Nursing” Lecture 1
Interaction Orientation Theory explains how nurses and patients influence each other through continuous communication, behaviours, and responses during care. This theory views nursing as an interactive process in which both the nurse and the patient share meanings, express feelings, and build understanding. It emphasizes that effective nursing care depends on how well the nurse interprets the patient’s needs, communicates clearly, and develops a therapeutic relationship. Through positive interaction, the nurse helps the patient achieve comfort, confidence, and better health outcomes.
