Creating the Smart Mine of the Future with Private LTE

The Talk: The mining industry is rapidly modernizing, with smart mining operations set to increase exponentially over the next few years. Reliable connectivity will enable mines to leverage technology to create safer, more productive, and more sustainable operations. Private networks offer the industry the opportunity to deploy technologies such as connected worker, predictive maintenance, asset monitoring and tracking, autonomous vehicles and more. As the world's leading gold miner, Newmont is creating their own private LTE network to meet the connectivity needs of their operations. The Speaker: Orlando Erickson joined Newmont in 2020 as Senior Director of Infrastructure. In this role, Orlando is responsible for overseeing Newmont’s global Information and Operational Technology infrastructure including hosting, networking, service delivery and collaboration. Over the past two years, Orlando has led the migration of Newmont to the Cloud as well as the development of a robust network connectivity strategy. Current projects include leading the rollout of Newmont’s private LTE and the move to the Cloud for Newmont’s global operations.
