Hiking Mount Mitchell to Celo Knob on the Black Mountain Crest Trail - Mt Mitchell State Park

This hike takes place in the Mount Mitchell State Park and Pisgah National Forest east of Ashville, North Carolina just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The goal of this hike the summit of a bunch of different mountains, Mount Mitchell (6,684’), Mount Craig (6,647’), Big Tom (6,560’), Balsam Cone (6,600’), Cattail Peak (6,522’) attempt, Potato Hill (6,475’), Winter Star Mountain (6,203’), Gibbs Mountain (6,200’), Percys Peak (6,200’) and Celo Knob (6,327’). This trail is moderately easy class 2 trail and has a couple short bushwhacks. The Black Mountain Crest trailhead is located at the north end of the Mt. Mitchell parking lot (see the Directions link below). Plenty of parking is available.
