Tommy Kono, Jim George and Clyde Emrich Training - Vintage Olympic Weightlifter - 8mm Film
Another film from the Osmo Kiiha collection that I digitized straight from the 8mm film and cleaned it up a little. The video shows Tommy Kono, Clyde Emrich and Jim George training. I'm not sure exactly when this was taken, but probably late 1950's. One of the onlookers has a Irving Park YMCA shirt on, so MAYBE it's there. That was a prominent Chicago area gym that Emrich was known to work out at. Clyde Emrich later went on to be the Chicago Bears strength coach from 25 years. The Irving Park YMCA was later renamed the Bear Den because for years that is where Emrich trained them. I contacted someone from Ironhistory.com who used to work out there from the 1960's to 1980 and he wasn't sure if it was the place in this video or not. I've looked online for pictures but it has been renovated since then and difficult to tell if it is the same place. If anyone has any insight, please let me know. Jim George - I believe is still with us at 90 years old. I know some people that might be able to get this video to him.
