We Found the WILD Side of Yellowstone | Beartooth Pass

Montana has a way of making everything feel bigger—the sky, the open spaces, the mountains, and the wildlife. In this episode, Carol and I set out with no real agenda and no timeline, just a day to explore and see what we might find along the way. We follow the Yellowstone River toward Gardiner and enter Yellowstone National Park from the north before turning east toward the legendary Lamar Valley. It doesn’t take long before we spot our first bison—and then, as the valley opens up, an enormous herd spread across the landscape. From there, we continue through Cooke City, stumble across a beautiful hidden camp in the forest, and nearly miss the incredible sight of Pilot Peak and Index Peak rising above the river. The next morning, we take on one of the most spectacular roads in North America: the Beartooth Highway. Climbing high above the tree line to nearly 11,000 feet, the road crosses alpine tundra before dropping through dramatic switchbacks and shelf roads toward Red Lodge, Montana. And as Red Lodge prepares for the Fourth of July, we make our way back to spend the day with Matt, Caroline, and of course, baby Sarah. Thanks for coming along with us.
