Operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL), it consists of heavy rail, light rail, and feeder bus service centred on an 11-line rapid transit network serving the urbanised areas of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. The system included 230.9 km (143.5 mi) of rail in 2018 with 163 stations, including 95 heavy rail stations and 68 light rail stops. The MTR is one of the most profitable metro systems in the world; it had a farebox recovery ratio of 187 per cent in 2015, the world's highest. Dallas has, for example, 14%, Beijing 60%, Berlin and San Francisco 70%, and then there is MTR with 187%!! At the same time it's extremely affordable: you can ride from one side of the Hong Kong Island to another for just HK$ 10.70 or US$ 1.30! The MTR was ranked the number one metro system in the world by CNN in 2017. The system is so profitable that it actually subsidizes the government, not the other way around as usual! Under the government's rail-led transport policy, the MTR system is a common mode of public transport in Hong Kong, with over five million trips made in an average weekday. It consistently achieves a 99.9 per cent on-time rate on its train journeys. As of 2018, the MTR has a 49.3 per cent market share of the franchised public transport market, making it the most popular transport option in Hong Kong. Construction of the MTR was prompted by a study, released in 1967, commissioned by the Hong Kong Government in order to find solutions to the increasing road congestion problem caused by the territory's fast-growing economy. Hong Kong's MTR is famous for its cleanliness, ease of use, safety and reliability. By 2005 all underground stations had been equipped with platform screen doors. Route maps on trains are installed with LED lighting to indicate location of trains and transfer information. Cross-platform interchange is available at most transfer stations. Check-in at the Train Station? -- If you're leaving Hong Kong by plane, you can use the Airport Express Train yourself, but also you can leave your baggage in the city, and it will be automatically transferred to the airport by the Airport Express (in a special baggage car of the train), and then to your flight. Since 2007, MTR has consistently achieved a 99.9 per cent on-time rate, meaning 999 of every 1,000 passengers arrives at their destination within 5 minutes of scheduled time. In 2013, out of the 5.2 million passengers the MTR averaged each workday, 5.195 million passengers were considered to have arrived "on time". This makes MTR one of the most efficient rapid transit systems on the planet. MTR must report all delays of more than eight minutes to the government. There were 143 reportable incidents in 2013. MTR is fined HK$1 million for having delays of 31 minutes to an hour, with higher fines for longer delays. THE LINE This Plarail train is a model of the Tsuen Wan Line train (Tsuen Wan – Central: 16.9 km – 16 stations). That line uses the Metro Cammell EMU (also known as M-Train) -- the oldest variation of electric multiple unit that operates on the MTR. A total of 768 cars were built by Metro-Cammell in England. The Tsuen Wan Line opened as the Tsuen Wan Extension in 1982, serving the satellite city of Tsuen Wan and the major corridor along Cheung Sha Wan Road and Nathan Road, with its passengers including those who transferred from road traffic from the New Territories towns, leading to overcrowding before the completion of Tung Chung Line in the late 1990s. The line is constantly crowded, being the link between major commercial centres of Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui and the Central District. PLARAIL MODEL This is a great one-speed-motor (C battery) train model, with very nicely shaped and colored body. It looks simple, but the the construction of this train is top notch. Completely closed silver body (windows are also closed and painted black) and the doors between the carriages are painted too, which is pretty unusual for a Plarail model. The roof is nicely painted gray, but there are two shades of gray used for different roof equipment, which is a nice touch. Stickers are used for destination boards only, everything else is painted. This model is manufactured by TOMY ASIA Ltd. Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong, under licence from TOMY Company, Ltd. and MTR Corporation Limited. It is made in Vietnam.
