Sadler's Wells wins the Irish 2,000 Guineas (1984)
What a racehorse he was, but it's for his feats as a stallion that Sadler's Wells remains best known. Bred in the USA, Sadler's Wells raced in Europe and landed Classic success in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, with further Group One glory in the Eclipse at Sandown and the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. Sadler's Wells also finished second in the Prix du Jockey Club and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Sadler's Wells died peacefully at the age of 30 at Coolmore Stud in 2011. His influence on the breed is pronounced, primarily through his outstanding stallion sons Montjeu and most notably Galileo, arguably the greatest of all time. Sadler's Wells was the leading stallion in Great Britain and Ireland 14 times - then a record - including 13 titles in a row. --------------------------------------------------------- Racing TV is the UK's leading horse racing channel showing live racing from the best racecourses in Great Britain and Ireland.
